Jakarta, February 26, 2019-Mr. Osamu Tsukamoto, President of Japan Coal Energy Center (JCOAL) and Dr. Nuki Agya Utama, Executive Director, ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) signed the 4th Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ACE and JCOAL.
Signing of the MoU
The MoU which ACE and JCOAL signed was the 4th one for the parties. Under the 1st MoU both parties had working group meetings and also observation knowledge and technology exchange on CCT in Japan both with focus on environmentally compliant and applicable CCTs and public acceptance (PA), followed by the 2nd and the 3rd, under which they jointly published two versions of ASEAN CCT Handbook for Power Plant ("the Handbook").
We are more than happy with the signing of the 4th MoU in anticipation of the work we will undertake in close cooperation in the coming years.
ACE and JCOAL have been always trying their best to produce tangible outcomes as shown in joint publication of the two versions of the Handbook.
In this context, it is our pleasure to continuously work with ACE in close collaboration with AFOC (ASEAN Forum on Coal) on the study of the role of coal power generation in the era of Energy Transition, which is quite significant for most of emerging economies including AMS and Japan that have made a choice to continuously use coal in their envisaged optimal energy mix.
In recent years, JCOAL has been calling countries for speaking with one voice to advocate for environmentally compliant and low emission utilization of coal in accordance with respective national energy situation, which we believe is a crucial step toward harmonization of the current international circumstances where coal utilization often is unconditionally declared to be unacceptable.
We believe that working further with ACE on the study of the role of coal power generation in the era of Energy Transition for ASEAN shall help us to ensure by-country optimal generation mix that is crucial in facilitating environmentally compliant, affordable and well-balanced national/regional energy development and utilization.
