| JCOAL hosts the Clean Coal Technology Conference, Advanced Clean
Coal Technology International Symposium and Clean Coal Seminar with
the aim of promoting the latest achievements of CCT. We also provide upto-
date information on CCT to a wide network of concerned parties through
our website and publications. In addition, by planning various events for
"Clean Coal Day" on September 5 every year, we strive to increase the
general public's awareness of clean coal technology and its importance. |

| (1)Clean Coal Technology Conference |

| JCOAL holds this Conference every year for the member companies and
other coal industry-related parties to provide a forum for presenting newly
developed coal technologies. |

| (2)Advanced Clean Coal Technology International Symposium
|
|
| The Symposium is conducted to introduce CCT and other coal technologies newly
developed at home and abroad, assess the latest trends in the coal technologies of
the world and facilitate the exchange of information on these technologies. |

| (3)Clean Coal Seminar |
|
| JCOAL sponsors this Seminar two or three times each year in order to
disseminate information on the trends of coal technology policies and latest
technological developments to those involved in the coal industry in Japan. |

| (4)Publication of the JCOAL Journal |
|
| In addition to "JCOAL Journal," which is published 4 times each year in
Japanese to introduce the latest coal technology and study papers on coal to
the members at home and abroad, JCOAL is planning to publish "Coal &
Safety" biannually in English. |

| JCOAL continues to improve its website as a source of the latest information.
This home page includes the contents such as the "JCOAL and CCUJ
Archives," "Coal Land," "Coal Used in the Environmentally-Friendly
Processes," and "Clean Coal Technologies in Japan." The website is accessed
by a wide spectrum of people that include children, students, ordinary citizens
and those who are in the forefront of cutting-edge technology. Moreover,
JCOAL provides a wide variety of data on the Internet through "JCIS," "Coal
DB" and "Coal Ash Utilization" in Japanese. |

| (6)Events related to the Clean Coal Day |
|
| To emphasize the importance of coal as an energy source and provide
information on the current state of CCT to the general public, JCOAL
organizes various events as the Secretariat of the Clean Coal Day Executive
Committee and Meeting which comprises of seven organizations concerned
with coal in Japan. These include the Annual International Conference and
Seminar on Coal held in early September, visit to coal-related facilities and the
preparation and distribution of pamphlets on coal. |
