The amount of coal ash that was effectively used
in fiscal 2006 was 10.6 million tons, equivalent to 97.2% of the total
production.
The ratio of effective utilization of production was 96.5% in electric
power utilities and 99.0% in general industries. Thus, coal ash usage
increased both in quantity and ratio from fiscal 2005, reaching
the highest levels since the start of the survey.
Looking at the breakdown of coal ash utilization by sector in fiscal
2006, the cement sector accounted for the largest proportion as
before, with 68.2% (7.2 million tons) of the total, broken down into
64% (5.0 million tons) for electric power utilities and 79% (2.2
million tons) for general industries.
In other sectors, public works showed a remarkable increase, accounting
for 13% (1.4 million tons) of the total utilization.
